The other morning I decided to make one of my favorite camping breakfasts. Actually it’s probably my favorite anytime breakfast…biscuits and gravy. If you don’t like biscuits and gravy, we can’t be friends. Biscuits love gravy so much!
Funny story about biscuits and gravy. A few years ago we had a family reunion in McCall, Idaho. My dad was told that he had to make his famous biscuits and gravy for breakfast one morning. He of course complied, but he thought it was pretty funny that no one knew that his sausage gravy was from a can. Seriously. From a can.
I much prefer mine homemade. This time we served it over Red Lobster Cheddar Bay biscuits, because I love them.
1 pound breakfast sausage (I like sage seasoned the best)
1/2 cup or so of flour
1.5 to 2 cups milk
salt and pepper to taste
Thoroughly cook the sausage, because we don’t want food poisoning. When the sausage is cooked, sprinkle the flour over the top, and stir to coat evenly. It will immediately start to get sticky. Add the milk, salt, and pepper, and simmer. Stir occasionally until desired thickness. Serve over biscuits. Eat too much, but never have regrets.
