All Around The Campfire

Twin Lakes Resort

It’s hard to believe that Labor Day weekend was 4.5 months ago!

Twin Lakes Resort is on the shores of South Twin Lake and Wickiup Reservoir. On the South Twin side, there are several cabins, a store with fishing gear and groceries, a restaurant, and a coffee hut. I’ve never stayed in the cabins, but I’ve had a great breakfast in the lodge (on a prior visit), and the coffee hut is a welcome addition on a cold morning. Rentals are available on kayaks, paddle boards, peddle boats, canoes, and row boats. There is a trail all the way around the lake. It is just over a mile and easy to walk in half an hour or so depending on how often you stop to take pictures.

While there is a Deschutes National Forest campground on South Twin, and there is another DNF campground on Wickiup side, we chose to stay at the Twin Lakes Resort RV Park on the shore of Wickiup.  We went with friends and had two huge full hookup sites next to each other. I backed into my site and could have fit my dad’s 33 foot Class A in front of me. That’s how long the site was! There was a path from my site leading to the water. In May or June it would be a short walk, but by September the reservoir was pretty low. That’s okay. As per the usual Oregon weather, Labor Day weekend was cold. The RV park isn’t very large – 22 sites in loop. In addition to being large, the sites were clean and raked. I didn’t check out the restrooms, because honestly? I didn’t buy a motorhome to poop in a communal bathroom when I have full hookups.

We really had a great weekend. Friday was girls night, and the husbands came out on Saturday for the rest of the weekend. We walked around South Twin, spent a lot of time watching our friends dog go insane about chasing a stick in the water. We had wonderfully warm campfires, and I made stew with dumplings over the camp stove. We desperately tried to tune into the Washington State University football game, but it wasn’t playing on Sirius. I think we are going to have to spring for satellite TV, because missing football is horrible!

We will definitely be back!
